On the evening of September 12, 2024, around 6 p.m., deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suspicious individual at a hotel located on the 200 block of Valleywood Drive in Spring, Texas. The caller indicated that a white male, previously issued a Criminal Trespass Warning earlier in the day, had returned to the property and refused to leave. This was the third time deputies had been called to the location regarding the same individual. During the first visit, a courtesy warning was given, and on the second, hotel management requested a formal Criminal Trespass Warning as the subject continued to stay on the premises.
Later in the afternoon, a third call came in, with hotel management reporting the individual’s return. Deputies arrived and attempted to detain him for criminal trespassing, but the man resisted arrest and ignored verbal commands. A deputy deployed a taser in an attempt to subdue the individual, but the man managed to remove the prongs and fled, grabbing a firearm from his belongings.
During the ensuing chase, deputies repeatedly instructed the man to stop and drop the weapon. When the subject turned towards the deputies, one, fearing for their safety, discharged their weapon, striking the individual multiple times. Deputies administered life-saving efforts until EMS arrived, but the man later died at a nearby hospital.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Violent Crimes Unit, along with Crime Scene Investigators, responded to the scene. The identity of the individual is being withheld until next of kin are notified. The shooting is currently under investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, and the Texas Rangers.
