Tomball Fire Department “Push In” Ceremony

Tomball Fire Rescue hosted a push-in ceremony September 7th at Firehouse 4, 10333 Mahaffey Rd.

The ceremony, led by Fire Chief Joe Sykora, honored a long-standing fire service tradition that dates back to the 1800s when fire engines were hand-drawn or pulled by horses. After returning from a call, firefighters would manually push the heavy equipment back into the station, marking the engine’s readiness for the next emergency.

Chief Sykora began the ceremony with a brief history of the “First Push” tradition before inviting the gathered firefighters to push the new engine into the bay, symbolizing its official induction into service. The event concluded with an opportunity for attendees to tour the state-of-the-art fire truck, offering a closer look at the latest addition to Tomball’s emergency response fleet.
